Moving out on a deadline: planning collection

An enquiry is not a reserved collection slot. If your handover is approaching, state the final deadline and the dates when access is possible, then seek explicit confirmation. Leave a buffer between collection and handover wherever your circumstances allow.

Plan the details

Identify which tasks can happen before a date is confirmed: inventory, separating belongings and checking lift dimensions. Avoid dismantling something you still need until responsibilities and timing are agreed. If availability does not fit your deadline, you will need another arrangement; do not treat an unconfirmed request as your only plan.

A practical example

If your departure is Friday but access is possible only on Wednesday, state both dates. “This week” leaves the important constraint unclear. Explain who can open the property and whether another day is genuinely possible. Wait for confirmation before arranging dependent tasks, and retain an alternative if the proposed window cannot be met.

Work out the last date on which the apartment can still be accessed, not just the date you prefer. Include any building access restrictions and the availability of the person opening the door. If your date is flexible, explain the actual range rather than saying “any time”. A confirmed collection should leave room for the tasks that follow. If your deadline changes, contact the provider rather than assuming the original slot can move with it.
