Furniture collection with stairs or limited lift access
Access influences the work and the quote.
Rehomeo editorial · Editorial draft · prepared 12 October 2026 · not yet published
Access influences the work and the quote. “There is a lift” is not enough information if the piece cannot fit through its door. Describe the floor, lift opening, cabin dimensions, stair turns and route between the apartment and the loading point.
Plan the details
Measure the furniture and the narrowest parts of the route without moving heavy pieces alone. Tell the team about shared entrances, fragile surfaces or restrictions you know of. Ask who will arrange any building permissions or loading access. Do not assume a pavement or parking area can be used simply because it is close to the door.
A practical example
For a sofa on the third floor, the lift may accommodate people but not the sofa. Give its width and length, the lift opening and stair turns. A photograph supplied later can clarify a difficult turn, but a written description is enough to start. Do not test the route by dragging the sofa through shared areas.
Access information is a planning tool, not a promise that a piece will fit. Measurements should identify constraints and support assessment. Tell the provider if you cannot measure a turn or if a doorway has a fixed obstruction. Do not remove doors or building fittings without authority. If specialist handling appears necessary, it should be discussed explicitly; stairs or a lift restriction do not automatically authorise an alternative method of taking furniture out.
Your checklist
- Record floor and lift dimensions.
- Measure narrow doors and turns.
- Describe the carry distance.
- Check building access arrangements.
- Discuss heavy or awkward items beforehand.
Sources and limitations
Longer use can reduce waste and demand for replacement products. The outcome depends on condition, transport, storage and actual reuse. We do not calculate or promise carbon savings. The environmental context is general, not a measurement of this service. FOEN explains that the whole life cycle must be considered when assessing outcomes. No per-item or collection-level savings are claimed here. BAFU / FOEN / OFEV / UFAM.
Before agreeing collection
Customers pay for collection and clearance unless another arrangement is explicitly agreed. A possible donation does not make transport free. An enquiry starts a conversation. It does not reserve a collection. How it works.
