Moving out in Switzerland: a practical clearance checklist
Start your clearance plan with the handover date, not the collection date.

Start your clearance plan with the handover date, not the collection date. Work backwards to leave time for choosing what stays, obtaining a quote and checking access. Clearance removes belongings; it does not automatically include end-of-tenancy cleaning or repairs. Keep those tasks on separate lines in your schedule.
Plan the details
Walk through every room and storage area. Mark each object as keep, pass on or assess. Include the cellar and balcony only when they are part of the agreed scope. Keep identity papers, keys and valuables together somewhere that cannot be confused with collection items. If several people share the home, confirm ownership before offering anything.
A practical example
If your apartment contains a sofa to collect and a desk to keep, label both decisions before boxes arrive. Include the sofa’s dimensions and access route in the enquiry. The desk should be on the excluded list, not merely left unmentioned. After clearance, use your own handover checklist to check cleaning and keys separately.
Keep a simple calendar with separate entries for sorting, quote approval, collection, cleaning and handover. Give each entry a responsible person. If an item is undecided, put it on an assessment list instead of silently including it in the confirmed collection. Before the final day, check that your list still reflects the contents of the rooms: packing often changes what is visible and where it stands. Tell the provider about additions before arrival.
Your checklist
- Record the handover deadline.
- Create a room-by-room inventory.
- Separate keep and leave items.
- Confirm access and scope in writing.
- Reserve time for cleaning separately.
Sources and limitations
Longer use can reduce waste and demand for replacement products. The outcome depends on condition, transport, storage and actual reuse. We do not calculate or promise carbon savings. The environmental context is general, not a measurement of this service. FOEN explains that the whole life cycle must be considered when assessing outcomes. No per-item or collection-level savings are claimed here. BAFU / FOEN / OFEV / UFAM.
Before agreeing collection
Customers pay for collection and clearance unless another arrangement is explicitly agreed. A possible donation does not make transport free. An enquiry starts a conversation. It does not reserve a collection. How it works.
